Kchisos Gallery is the result of a life-long dream of the owner, Keith
Williams, who had wanted to have a gallery of his own in which he could
showcase his unique photography. When the opportunity arose in late May
of 2007 to rent retail space at the beautiful Inn at Loretto, Williams
jumped on it.
The gallery's name is unusual. Kchisos, pronounced 'kay-chees-ose', is
a moniker that Williams has carried with him for many years. It has been
a nickname at times and is the official name of his business, Kchisos Enterprises.
It is a made-up word derived from adding his first initial 'K' to the name
of a majestic mountain range in Big Bend National Park, the Chisos Mountains.
The Big Bend park has been a favorite outdoor recreation destination of
Williams for many years.
The original concept, which has been achieved with Kchisos Gallery, was
to obtain a space that could easily accommodate Williams' photography,
as well as the works of other talented artists. The gallery maintains a
focus on representing regional artists, especially those from the Santa
Fe area of New Mexico (where Williams currently resides) and from the Big
Bend area of Southwest Texas (where Williams resided for several years
before moving to Santa Fe).
While living in Alpine, Texas, Williams started showing his photographic
art professionally. In the course of doing so, he became acquainted with
many other artists from the area. Then, upon moving to New Mexico, while
showing his work at the Tesuque Flea Market, he met several other artists
from the Santa Fe area.
"When I decided to open a gallery of my own, I had a working list of talented
artists whose works I wanted to display along side my own.
Since I opened the gallery, I have been approached by several other artists
wanting to show with me, as well," states Williams.
While the gallery may, at times, feature the works of artists from other
areas, it is the owner's intention to continue to support local and regional
talent from New Mexico and Southwest Texas by inviting new artists from
these areas to show their work at Kchisos Gallery. |
